How to read a snack label?
How to read a snack label?
7 things worth checking before you buy
Pick up any snack, flip it over, and things can get confusing pretty quickly.
Long ingredient lists. Words you can’t pronounce. Claims that sound great on the front and don’t quite add up on the back.
It’s not always obvious what you’re really buying.
At Natch, we’ve always believed it shouldn’t take effort to understand your snack. You shouldn’t have to choose between something that tastes good and something you feel good reaching for.
So if you’re trying to snack a little more consciously, here are a few simple things we always look for.
1. Do you recognise the ingredients?
This is usually the easiest place to start.
If the ingredient list feels complicated or unfamiliar, it’s worth a second look. Good snacks don’t need to hide behind hard-to-read labels.
Think of ingredients you’d recognise without squinting. Chickpeas in our Chickpea Puffs. Millets in our Millet Bars. Nuts and seeds in our Maple Glazed Nut Mixes. Real fruit in our Thai Mango Slices.
2. Does it rely on preservatives?
A lot of packaged snacks use preservatives to extend shelf life.
We’ve always taken a simpler route. Keep the process right, and you don’t need to overload the product with extras. It’s how snacks like our Popped Chips, Chickpea Puffs, and Nut Mixes stay fresh without adding anything unnecessary.
3. Is palm oil doing the heavy lifting?
Palm oil shows up in more snacks than you’d expect.
It’s often used for convenience, not necessarily because it makes the snack better. That’s why we’ve chosen to build our products without it across categories, from our Thai Rice Chips to our Chickpea Popped Chips.
4. What’s the snack really made of?
The first few ingredients tell you most of what you need to know.
If it’s built around heavily refined fillers, that usually reflects in the experience too. We prefer starting with ingredients that feel closer to actual food, whether it’s chickpeas, sticky rice, millets, nuts, seeds, or fruit across our range.
5. How is it made?
Ingredients matter, but so does the process
Baked, popped, or dried, the way a snack is made changes how it feels.
Our Chickpea Puffs are baked for that light, savoury crunch. Our Chickpea Popped Chips are popped instead of fried. And our Thai Mango Slices are gently dried to keep their natural sweetness intact.
Different processes, same idea. Keep it simple and make it enjoyable to come back to.
6. Where is the flavour coming from?
Flavour doesn’t have to come from artificial additives.
The best snacks get there with real ingredients and thoughtful combinations. Whether it’s the seasoning on our Thai Rice Chips or the blends in our Nut Mixes, it’s about keeping things bold without overcomplicating them.
7. Would you reach for it again?
This is the simplest test.
Not just “does it taste good right now”, but “would I keep coming back to this?"
The right snack fits easily into your day. Something like a Millet Bar between meetings, or a pack of Popped Chips when you just want something light and flavourful.
So, where does Natch fit in?
Everything we make is built around that same idea.
Ingredients you recognise. Processes that make sense. Flavours that hold up.
Snacking that feels easy to come back to, every day.
